How i feel about this school

OUR MISSION IS STUDENT SUCCESS... ACADEMIC, ARTISTIC, AND HUMANISTIC.

To me academic student success means to have an outreach to students that crave knowledge. Not necessarily a student that is striving for a higher A-- even though that is student academic success as well; but a student that tries their best and still gets acknowledged.

I have come across too many teachers that over look the students that put forth 100% effort and still get let down with C's and D's. This only discourages the student to not care about what he/she does. Most teachers don't understand that not every student can stay after school for extra help. It may not necessarily be the students lack of assertiveness, it may also be the students parents. This is where our school system fails miserably. almost all the teachers in SOTA automatically assume that its the students fault, and although some of the time, it may very well be, some of the time it's not. If a student already has a defeatist attitude about a certain subject, because they may not be the best at whatever class they are in, dismissing them will not help. Once these teachers at SOTA look outside of their everyday life and into the lives of students that have a hardknock life, they will remain ignorant to the reasons some students act the way they do, and fail at what they teach.

Artistic success to me means when an individual is allowed to express themselves in an artistic way, whether its drawing, singing, dancing, or even writing, rapping, or just plain talking.

Many teachers (not neccesarily in SOTA, because arts is what they specialize in) find that artistic success is not neccesarily important to students everyday lives. Expressing ourselves artistically may be one of very few ways to actually get what we feel out in the open. I know many people that write or sing or dance their lives away just to keep from crying. I believe that SOTA is doing its part as far as the artistic aspect of success.

Humanistic success is when people care about the welfare of other people. They can do this by helping their community and/or even just giving good advice.

I don't think that some teachers in SOTA care about the humanistic success of the students. I believe that some of them care more so for the academic "rates" rather than the welfare of the actual student. For instance there are teachers that boost the grade of their students if most of the class is failing. Not for the welfare of the student's but just so that they don't attract bad media from administrators. There are also teachers that don't want to take time out of their schedule to help the student's because they feel that they should get all of the information out of the class. Some students learn better 1 on 1 instead of in a class environment, and some teachers don't understand that.

If I could change SOTA I would change how some teacher teach their subjects. SOTA unfortunately beats the talent that students have into their heads, until the student looses the passion they had for their talent in the 1st place. I think if I were a head administrator of SOTA I would allow students to go to their arts class every other day instead of every day. This would take the edge off of the work they have to do to be good at what ever major they do. The academic, artistic, and humanistic success of the students can really have a greater affect on the student than some people think.
